 GIRLS ARTISTIC COMPETITIVE TEAM PROGRAMS

The award-winning competitive team program for the girls is taken more than serious at Miami Gymnastics.

Gymnastics as a “sport” is totally different from gymnastics as an “activity”! Therefore, Miami Gymnastics competitive teams are a separate program from the fun and recreational levels of the gym. MGDA competitive program provides training in all Olympic apparatus including bars, beams, vault, and floor exercise.

Miami Gymnastics provides top notch training aides that include foam-filled cubicle pool (pit), incline mats, video aides, state-of- the-art spring tumbling floors, trampoline, 40 foot long tumble track, AAI bars and beams, spotting stations, and varieties of safety mats.

All prospective competitive athletes may contact our office to schedule an evaluation for class placement. Programs for Girls Levels 3-10 are available. All competitive programs include a ballet option as part of the comprehensive competitive program.

In addition, Miami Gymnastics Academy prides itself on having the most professional and experienced coaches who are teaching correct gymnastics technique. It is vital for long-term success. All gymnasts will learn gymnastics safely through proper skill progressions, strength and flexibility training, as well as necessary mental preparation.

COMPETITIVE TEAM MISSION

It is our goal to bring every young athlete to her fullest potential in competitive gymnastics.

Miami  Gymnastics staff is extremely passionate about their role in guiding gymnasts through training and helping them develop into strong, disciplined athletes both mentally and physically.

We hope to install emotional strength that will help them excel in the sport and beyond. Our program puts an emphasis on discipline, perseverance, mental awareness and team unity.

We are dedicated to offering every gymnast the best professional instruction in an organized program that sets a high standard. We will strive to bring out the best in every gymnast.

PHILOSOPHY OF MIAMI GYMNASTICS COMPETITIVE GYMNASTICS PROGRAM

The purpose of the Competitive Team program is to bring each of our athletes to their maximized potential in competitive gymnastics while helping her develop an emotional strength that will guide her through the sport and beyond.

In addition to learning gymnastics skills we want every gymnast to gain life skills and attributes that represent strong character. Competitive gymnastics at Miami Gymnastics and Dance Academy will give gymnasts an opportunity to develop poise, discipline, mental toughness, determination, appreciation for dedicated effort, and self-respect.

It is our goal that through competitive gymnastics we can help children achieve the skills to become strong, confident athletes and people.

We will offer every gymnast the best professional instruction in a well-organized, quality program along with an intense, but motivating environment where the athletes are expected to give their all.

We will strive to provide the emotional and physical discipline needed for competitive gymnastics within a structure that will give support, encouragement and a “never settle for than less than your best” mentality. We want to produce athletes that have pride, confidence, and a drive to push their limits.

GIRLS LEVELS 4 – 6  (Compulsory Program)

Gymnasts begin participation in competitive USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic sanctioned meets beginning at level 4. Time commitment increases tremendously when gymnasts begin competing.

Competition is at the state level; however two out of state travel meets per year (within driving distance) may be required. Gymnasts may compete in up to 10 meets per year. Gymnasts perform compulsory routines in each level. The compulsory routines are developed by USA Gymnastics with varying levels of difficulty.

The intent is to make the level 4, 5 and 6 routines progressive to one another.  All level 4 athletes will perform the same routines as well as levels 5 and 6. These levels are the introductory levels of competition where gymnasts learn to perform and have their skills critiqued by certified judges. Routines are extremely intricate with little room for variation.

Core skills are emphasized in these routines as well as dance movements. Gymnasts are required to conform to the styles and techniques of the compulsory routines where an emphasis is placed on form, posture and presentation. The compulsory levels provide gymnasts with a foundation of  discipline and strong basic skills.

Competitive Gymnasts are required participate in all Team Intensive programs and/or Team Camps/Clinics at Miami Gymnastics through the entire year.

GIRLS LEVELS 7 - 10  (Optional Program)

At the optional level gymnasts have the opportunity to qualify for regional and national championships with each progressing level. In addition to travel for championships, gymnasts will have at least two out of state travel meets per year. All other competitions are held within the state.

The optional levels require a very serious commitment due to the grade of difficulty and increased risk involved. Gymnasts will begin performing more complex skills and combinations. Proper training and preparation at the early pre team and compulsory levels is essential for success at these levels.

Competitive Gymnasts are required to participate in all Team Intensive programs and/or Team Camps/Clinics at Miami Gymnastics through the entire year. Beginning with Level 7, routines are designed specifically for the individual athlete, where routines will enhance strong points and distinctive style.

Gymnasts will be scored upon their level of difficulty, execution, artistry, and originality. Each level provides a new set of more difficult requirements on each event that must be included in routines. Miami Gymnastics offers training for gymnasts through level 10.

As our gymnasts approach the upcoming levels, we will grow with our gymnasts and cater to their needs by providing the level of training they require.

PRE TEAM

The Pre-Team program is non-competitive. Time commitment is limited, but will increase as gymnasts move up levels. The Pre-Team will prepare gymnasts for competition with the main focuses being shape training, mastering core skills, increasing strength, increasing flexibility and challenging endurance.

In addition to preparing the gymnasts physically, we strongly believe in training them to cope with the inevitable mental adversities they will face in gymnastics that may include, fear, doubt and struggle, while also building a foundation of confidence and pride in accomplishment. Teamwork and respect for fellow teammates is also emphasized.

Curriculum will be based on Junior Olympic Level 1, 2, & 3 progressions. Gymnasts will have the opportunity to work in a challenging, yet fun environment that will test their mental and physical abilities. Proper skill progressions and techniques are emphasized which are vital for long-term success. The pre team gymnasts will have approximately two opportunities to perform throughout the year.

Pre-Competitive Gymnasts need to participate in all Team Intensive programs and/or Team Camps/Clinics at Miami Gymnastics through the entire year. The first one is the Miami Gymnastics Annual Holiday Show in December.

The second is a “fun meet” held at Miami Gymnastics in June and is a non-competitive meet where gymnasts perform routines in a competition-type format on each event.

TOPS 4 +

the sport of gymnastics requires a great amount of discipline and determination. We believe it is extremely important to develop and help to instill these attributes in young gymnasts as early as possible.

The TOPS program is designed to prepare young gymnasts for future competition by emphasizing strong basic fundamentals, strength, flexibility, discipline and respect for the sport. Gymnasts are hand selected for this program based on their attitude, work ethic, desire, gymnastics skills, strength and flexibility.

Pre Competitive gymnasts at Miami Gymnastics are provided with a challenging, disciplined environment to further build their abilities with other gymnasts who share similar potential and desire. Training will maintain a balance of seriousness and fun, and the entire experience will be extremely enjoyable for children who are passionate about the sport!

HOT SHOTS LEVELS 3 - 5

This class is designed for the most talented young gymnasts who have ability and desire to be in a warm but challenging environment. Gymnasts are hand selected for this program based on their attitude, work ethic, desire, gymnastics skills, strength and flexibility.
